Mark Fyvie

Dear All,

At this month's (March, 2008) meeting we pay tribute to one of the most impressive entrepreneurs I've met here in Switzerland. It is with great sorrow that we must say goodbye to a truly special man and an important member of our group. On March 10, 2008, Mark Fyvie lost his life in a diving accident at Ginnie Springs, Florida.

Many of you will remember Mark Fyvie as the founder of the English Forum, an online community of English-speaking folks, helping people with all manner of issues about living in Switzerland and, perhaps more importantly, helping people to connect. What he started here in Switzerland is without question the most successful venture of its kind, largely because people believed in his vision, and in him, and to this day remain dedicated to carry on in his footsteps. Mark did what he did out of the goodness of his heart, and without any funding from outside sources.

This is a great loss, not only to those who knew him well, but to the many lives he had yet to touch. From what I know and understand from friends loved ones, he had many projects in play, and did nothing without passion.

More information about Mark, and a long list of tributes to his life can be found where he spent a great part of his time and effort - at www.englishforum.ch.

Aside from being a successful entrepreneur, Mark was one of the early supporters of Venture Cocktail. He was interested in supporting Switzerland’s early-stage business community, and in helping other entrepreneurs to find their way.

Please join us in a toast to Mark Fyvie and to the spirit of innovation in Switzerland.
